In 1986 I entered the national (schoolboy) Diploma Championship in Oskarshamn. Nine competitors weighed in and I managed to go all the way to the gold medal.
I am pretty proud of it as I wasn't a too technically skilled boxer to begin with. Diploma boxing is all (almost) about technique and your judged upon your qualities as an all round boxer. In this tournament you aren't supposed to hit hard, even though one fight in my weight class, the one between Reine Benjaminsson and Nicklas Wikstrand ended via a knockout to Reines advantage. Pretty odd in fact! Benjaminsson went on to the semi's where he lost against me on points.I had three fights and won them all! This is what the Swedish Boxing Magazine wrote about my accomplishment in this particular tournament

"The Lightweight category was the largest one with nine participants, 14 year old Teddy Stenmark won the gold medal and defeated three older guys on his journey to the gold, very well done!"
